 DELIVERY OF MEDICATION TO NURSE
Please
be aware that the Department of Education has recently passed the
following Rule regarding the delivery of ALL Medication to the school
nurse for the purpose of administration during the school day.
Section 311.02 of this Rule states as follows:
“(l)
A parent, guardian or a parent/guardian-designated, responsible adult
shall deliver all medication to be administered by school personnel to
the school nurse or other responsible person designated by the school
nurse as follows: (1) The prescription medication shall be in a pharmacy or manufacturer labeled container;
(2) The school nurse or other responsible person receiving the
prescription medication shall document the quantity of the prescription
medication delivered; and
(3) The medication may be delivered by other adult(s), provided, that
the nurse is notified in advance by the parent or guardian of the
delivery and the quantity of prescription medication being delivered to
school is specified.”
Therefore,
it is your responsibility as the parent to deliver the medication to me
at the Nurse’s Office, OR designate another responsible adult to
do so.
Thank you for your cooperation with regard to this matter, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Medical Alert:Please
notify the School Health Office whenever your child is being tested for
and/or diagnosed with a new medical condition. Please note that this
also includes any changes being made to a current medication or the
addition of a new medication. When medical emergencies occur at school,
the school nurse is the first to respond and any change in your child's
medical status could be vitally important. We respect your choice for
confidentiality but also want to do our best to provide the best care
possible. Thank you!Emergency care of sickness and accidents is provided by the school nurse. School health services should not be used in place of regular medical services, which should be taken care of at home. If
students require special medical attention, parents will be notified
and asked to furnish transportation. If a student becomes ill or
injured at school, he/she will report to the nurse or the main office. No
student should leave the school under any circumstances without
permission from the nurse or principal. Medication
of any kind cannot be given to a student without written permission
from his/her parents (special form provided by the school). Please read the School Health Information Guide for a complete description of the district's policies. |
