Bench of Honor
The Kearsarge Regional School District has placed a bench and plaque on Main Street, New London in honor of the memory of our good friend and former Superintendent, Tom Brennan.
Tom was a true student centered leader and consummate champion for children. His dedication to meeting the needs of each child spanned from his implementation of Kindergarten here in this district to his unwavering support of the Kearsarge Adult Diploma Program. Tom knew that teacher training was crucial to student achievement, and as a result, led the restructuring of the Professional Development Program in the District to better address teacher instructional needs. He believed that learning could take place far beyond the school house walls and in demonstrating that belief, created board polices and developed community relationships that set the foundation for today’s work on extended learning opportunities and community service. His tireless efforts in addressing facility needs resulted in the construction of a new middle school and set the stage for the relocation of the SAU offices. It is on this site, of the former SAU office, that the bench and the sign sit, flanked by two mighty oak trees to symbolize his strength, resolve, and dedication to children.
Tom’s legacy to the families and children of this school district will long be remembered and honored through this small symbol of appreciation. We also announce the kickoff of a local scholarship to be developed in collaboration with Tom’s family to continue to support the growth, aspirations, and dreams for the children and educators of our school district. Donations can be sent to SAU 65, 114 Cougar Court, New London, NH 03257, payable to KRSD (Brennan Endowment in memo).
