DFC - Grant Application Policy

Our objective is to provide a significant increase in the number of individuals wanting to undertake projects requiring supplemental funding, and a substantial increase in grant income to meet this need.

I. General Considerations:

  1. Any employee of the School District may apply for a grant which will benefit the KRSD so long as the grant funded will work toward achievement of the Goals of the District and will be consistent with the Mission Statement of the District.
  2. It is expected that, initially, applicants for grants will be provided release time or a stipend for some or all of the time they spend writing grant applications. Agreement must be reached with the Superintendent beforehand as to the form and extent of such release time or stipend.
  3. Educational opportunities offered within the curriculum as a result of a grant to a person(s) who is/are not a District employee(s) shall have the Principal’s approval and shall be overseen by a teacher employed by the District.

II. Application Review:

  1. Grant applications shall be reviewed by the Principal both at the concept level before the application is constructed and again before the application is submitted to the Superintendent for budget review and approval.
  2. If a grant application is for a project sufficiently unusual that the Principal believes it might not be in keeping with the Goals and/or Mission Statement of the District, or is he/she believes the project might significantly modify the curriculum, then the Superintendent shall ask the School Board for a vote of acceptance or denial.

III. Grant Administration:

  1. Administration of the grant funded project shall include oversight by the Principal of the school at which the project occurs. A project manager will be designated in the grant application.
  2. Funds shall be managed in accordance with standard accounting procedures of the District.

IV. Grant Writing Encouragement:

  1. It is a policy of the District to provide at least one grant writing workshop each year.
  2. A list of opportunities for grants will be circulated to teachers.
  3. The SAU office shall supply standard information required in grant applications. More specialized data will be provided, if available.
