JEB - AGE OF ENTRANCE

A student may enter grade one if his/her chronological age will be six years before September 30 of the year of entering school.

A student may enter kindergarten if his/her chronological age will be five years before September 30 of the year of entering school.

A birth certificate must be presented upon registration as proof of the date of birth.

In-coming transfer students in grades 2-8, inclusive, will be initially placed in accordance with the data forwarded by the pupil’s last school of attendance. Such placement is tentative and subject to reassignment by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.

In-coming transfer students in grade one will only be initially admitted to grade one if their chronological age will be six years before December 31 of the year of entering school, or if previously enrolled in grade one in another school and attending local schools only on a temporary basis (10 months or less).  Such placement is tentative and subject to reassignment by the Superintendent.

The Kearsarge Regional School District will consider parental requests for early enrollment for a child who will not be five or six years old until the period between October 1 and December 31.  The final decision for early enrollment will be based upon the student’s needs.  To determine a need for early enrollment, the child must have completed an evaluation administered by certified evaluator(s) following the procedures outlined in District procedure JEB-R.  Both the evaluations and evaluators must be pre-approved by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.  The evaluation results will aid in determining the child’s readiness for kindergarten or first grade respectively, and must measure the child’s social, emotional, physical, and academic abilities, placing them in the 98th percentile or above in all categorical areas. The parents will be responsible for both the scheduling and administration of evaluations and their related expense.  The results of such evaluations will be forwarded to the placement team.  Based upon their review of the evaluation results, the team will forward a recommendation to the Superintendent of Schools who will make the final decision.
