KBD - Outside Speakers

Speakers of various points of view should be a part of good and meaningful education.

Where appropriate, if a speaker presents one point of view, another speaker presenting the opposite point of view should be invited either at the same time or within a reasonable time.  Balance is important in presenting the several sides of an issue since good education involves the analysis and the evaluation of different points of view.

No speaker advocating the violent overthrow of the constitutional structure of the United States of America will be allowed to speak in any of the public schools of this district.

Any speaker must be approved by the Principal with the assistance of the appropriate department head or club advisor.

Parents and the School Board will be notified, in writing, of the presentation, the background and affiliation of the presenter, the content of the presentation and any other pertinent information regarding the topic/issue to be presented.

The topic/issue presented and the speaker invited to present the topic/issue must establish a demonstrable relationship to the curricular or co-curricular activity in which the students would be participating.

This policy pertains to assemblies and school-wide activities only.
