KDE - Crisis Prevention and Awareness

The Kearsarge Regional School District, its mission to provide care and support for each student, accepts as a major responsibility the provision of all possible support to its students through a qualified and competent cadre of staff members.

The Kearsarge Regional School District is aware of the alarming increase in the incidence of personal crises leading to adolescent suicide over the past several years, which it recognized as a tragic development reflecting the increased stress levels prevalent in our turbulent and changing society.

The Board supports the following activities:

  • The establishment of procedures for dealing with trauma, tragedy (natural and man-made), and loss of life within the District;
  • Provision of resource materials to schools on awareness of suicidal tendencies and methods of response;
  • Provision of in-service training for staff in all crisis intervention;
  • Encouragement of curriculum approaches for the student that will stress the development of positive self-esteem and good mental health practices;
  • Establishment of Crisis Management Response Teams at the school level, supported by a central Crisis Management Advisory Team.

The Superintendent shall institute procedures to implement this policy.
