SAS Testing

March 11, 2026

Dear KRES-NL Families,

Each year, New Hampshire public schools are required by the state to administer standardized assessments, with a goal of evaluating student progress and guiding instruction.  We are preparing for our annual administration of New Hampshire Statewide Assessments (NH SAS) in Grades 3 through 5.  Students will participate in the English Language Arts (Reading and Writing) and Mathematics assessments. Our 5th grade students will also be assessed in Science.  The purpose of these assessments is to measure our students’ mastery of skills in comparison to grade-level standards.

State assessments are an important part of a student’s core educational program. They help measure student mastery of core academic skills, serve as one tool for measuring the degree to which students are on track to progress through middle and high school, and help inform future instruction in the classroom.  In addition to classroom assignments, projects, essays, and local assessments, SAS results provide parents with valuable insights into students' progress on their academic journey.

The NH SAS is an online assessment that students access using Chromebooks. Test sessions will last roughly 90 minutes each day. Testing will begin for grade 5 the week of April 20th; for grades 3, 4 and continuing for grade 5 the weeks of May 4th, culminating on May 29th.  A full schedule was shared with families through email.

Please avoid scheduling appointments during the testing dates and make sure students get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast. While state testing is not our only focus, it is an indicator of a student’s progress and the school’s effectiveness.

Student results for the NH SAS are generally available immediately upon the student completing the test. You will be emailed an access code that you will use to see your child’s Individual Score Report home prior to or at the Parent Conferences of the first term in the next school year.

Respectfully,

Laura Newman
