Coach and Athlete Information

Physical Exam

A physical exam must be turned in to either the school nurse or athletic trainer prior to the first day of pre-season. Any athlete without a physical exam on file will be ineligible for KRHS athletics participation until it is on file.

Athletes at KRHS are only required to have ONE physical exam in their FOUR years of high school. It must be done in the calendar year of their freshman year or later in order to be considered up to date. If the athlete has another physical exam done, a copy should be brought to the school nurse or athletic trainer so that their chart may be updated.

Coaches should turn in a roster to the athletic trainer as soon aspossible. The athletic trainer will then pull the athletes chart and check to make sure that an updated physical exam is on file.

Emergency Contact Form

Parents/Guardians and athletes must complete an emergency contact form prior the beginning of their sports season and it must be signed be a parent/guardian. This form must be filled out, signed, and handed in to the athletic trainer before the beginning of your second practice. The first day of practice is a grace period for those who have forgotten, after that you will have to sit out until the form is handed in.

Athletes without a completed emergency contact form and or a copy of physical exam on file are not allowed to participate in athletics.

Coaches

The Emergency Action Plan is sent to you prior to the beginning of each season. It is a long document that specifies the exact plan for each field, outside practice location, and location inside the school when applicable. If you have questions please call the athletic trainer; it is your responsibility to know the emergency action plan as you are part of it!

The athletic trainer and sports medicine staff must be directly notified by the COACH or the INJURED ATHLETE when there is an injury or MD visit. If an athlete is injured badly enough to require treatment, send the athlete to the Athletic trainer so that they may be evaluated or call the athletic trainer to come evaluate the athlete if you do not think they should be moved. If the athlete is injured badly at an away game, please call the athletic trainer or ask the away athletic trainer (if they evaluated said athlete) to contact the KRHS athletic trainer.

Coaches are responsible for bringing their medkit to every offsite practice, game, or event. This allows other athletic trainers to use our resources to tape our athletes. It should also contain all athlete emergency contact forms which you must have when traveling.

Coaches should not tape any athlete. Your training in first aid and CPR does not cover taping. If you chose to tape an athlete you can be held liable for any damages that may occur. Please, for the safety of the athletes and to place liability on someone with liability insurance, let the athletic trainer at Kearsarge or the away site handle the taping! This protects you, the school, and the athlete.

Availability

The athletic trainer will be available on site as follows:

  • All regularly scheduled home games and home playoff games
  • Away games for varsity football and all playoff games as available.
  • All after school practices.

The athletic trainer may be available to cover special events, tournaments, and practices on weekends and or holidays, by special request of the athletic director, coach, or by private contract. During certain school breaks and when there are no mandatory practices/games the athletic trainer may not be available. Please contact the athletic trainer if you have questions about availability in advance.

When the athletic trainer is present the ATC will provide initial assessments, first aid, decisions regarding return to play, and parent contact if necessary. In the absence of an ATC, these become the responsibility of the coach. All such injuries should be reported to the ATC as soon as practical.

If the athletic trainer is unavailable for away games and athletes need to be taped, the athletic trainer will contact the athletic trainer for the other school and see if coverage can be arranged. If this is possible, the athlete must bring the medkit to the other athletic trainer so that our resources may be used instead of theirs.
